BANGKOK, OUR FINAL DAY.

The morning could not have started off better than with a brisk (well, not exactly brisk as it was 90+ degrees outside) walk to our new favorite breakfast spot!  We got to enjoy the roadside sights and smells of Bangkok for the last time (until next time)!

Yes, John opted to return to Sarnies for yet another sumptuous breakfast!

We had to climb some precarious steps for John to enjoy his Tom Yum Eggs Benedict upstairs.  It was a very busy morning downstairs at Sarnies!

We decided to catch the nearby Shangri-La’s courtesy boat across the river to catch a tour boat up the river.  I wanted to get pictures of the Big Buddha, the Reclining Buddha and the Royal Palace.  We’ve taken tours to these sights in years past, however, I really wanted to see them again!

We grabbed a tour boat from the Iconsiam, Bangkok’s newest mall.  We wanted to get inside to see it (because it looks AMAZING in the photos we’ve seen), however, we didn’t have time.

These were some of the sights we saw along the river, very typical of a Bangkok River cruise.  I would guess that most of these buildings were wats (cuz there are a whole lotta wats along the river, ya know)!

It was an extremely busy morning on the water.  (I’m guessing every morning looks like this!)

But, darn it, we didn’t see any buddhas!  We did, however, catch glimpses of the Royal Grand Palace, once we were off the boat and walking around!

You can thank Google for these pictures of….The Royal Palace,

the Big Buddha (appropriately named),

the Emerald Buddha,

and the Reclining Buddha—all iconic sights to see when in Bangkok!

We “ Bolted” it back to our condo where we were later being picked up by Murf and his wife, Oyl.  On the way, the Bolt driver took us down what I (appropriately, I think) named “Buy A Buddha Avenue” because, I kid you not, we passed shop after shop selling Buddha statues!  (Darn!  Wish I had packed lighter!)

Later, we enjoyed a delightful lunch of a variety of Thai dishes (all delicious!) with Murf and Oyl!  (Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to spend time with us, you two! 🥰)

We arrived back at our condo to finish up some laundry since we head to Hong Kong in the morning!  When all of our clean clothes were out on our balcony hanging on a drying rack, we “Bolted” to a new funky, artsy area called Song Wat Art Street. It was ADORABLE and the streets were full of young, vibrant people (that included us, of course)!

It was extremely HOT and HUMID and it wasn’t long before John and I were craving air con and a nice COLD BREWSKI!  We walked and walked and didn’t see a beer joint anywhere!  We moseyed into China Town (which was close by), but still we saw no place to grab a beer!

Finally, with sweat dripping down our backs, I spotted a sign that said “Craft Beer”!  We raced inside and were met with coveted cold air and were pleasantly surprised to discover it was a delightful place for not only a cold brewski, but dinner as well!

First thing first, we were both served an ice cold Chang!  And guess what we found on the menu?  Peking Duck!  We hit the jackpot with this one!

Our waitress (who spoke no English) explained that this was NOT Hong Kong style Peking Duck.  (We THINK that’s what she said!)

We were served a plate of Morning Glory (YUM!),

a side of onions, peppers, cucumbers, and some kind of a hoison sauce,

and finally, the duck skin and little pancake wraps!  The rest of the duck meat was stir fried with vegetables in sweet and sour sauce (this was unlike the Peking Duck we’ve had it the past).  It was a meal fit for a king! (Also fit for two hot, weary, hungry travelers!)

After we were reenergized by the beer and the duck, we “Bolted” it the “colorful” Patpong Night Market.  Let’s just say, it was WAY beyond “colorful”!  (I’ll just leave it at that!)

We ended our last day in Bangkok with yet another Thai Massage.  And yes, it was beyond FANTASTIC!
Khaawp khun kha, BANGKOK!  Until we meet again!

  3. The Peking duck Bev and I shared with you guys in Dubai many years ago might be enough for me…. Well, maybe not if they served it with no eyeballs and body parts showing… 😂
